Indian govt's response to French awards

The Indian government is showing favoritism towards Shahrukh Khan for awards to be given by the French govt on Indian soil.

The French govt has announced an award for writer Taslima Nasreen. Similarly, it announced an award for Shahrukh Khan for 2007 in the field of art.
The French President Nicholas Sarkozy has arrived as a special guest participating in India's Republic Day celebrations. The French govt had asked the Indian govt if it could give away the awards to the above awardees during Sarkozy's visit.
On the grounds that there are forces working against Taslima Nasreen and an award would create fresh problematic situations, the Indian govt has refused permission for the award to be given here to Taslima. The govt has however agreed to pay Taslima's travel charges if the function is held anywhere else in the world.

At the same time, the Indian govt has no objection to the award being given to Shahrukh Khan.
Even outside cinema, this is yet another instance of writers not being given their due respect.
